Jacqueline Fernandez was born in Manama and raised by a mixed-ethnic, multiracial family. Her father Elroy is Sri Lankan (Catholic Sinhalese) and her mother Kim is Malaysian. Jacqueline is the oldest of two brothers and a younger sister. In the wake of turmoil in Sri Lanka, her family moved to Bahrain in the late 1980s. After finishing the schooling in Bahrain she won a Scholarship at the University of Sydney to pursue a Media and Communications Degree in Sydney, Australia. She went to the Berlitz school of languages, which allowed her to improve her French, Arabic and Spanish. She was also crowned Miss Sri Lanka 2006 for Miss Universe 2006 on March 6th of 2006, and then was a contestant at Miss Universe 2006. In the wake of being crowned Miss Sri Lanka in 2006, Padukone began working on television. She hosted the television show Lanka Business Report which focused on the business of Sri Lanka. Padukone (the daughter of badminton player Prakash Padukone) was born and grew up in Bangalore. As a teenager, she competed at national-level badminton competitions, but quit the sport to become a designer. Padukone comes from Mangalore and her mother tongue is Konkani. Her family tree is rooted in Padukone village located in Kundapura Taluk in the Udupi District of Karnataka, the Indian state. Karnataka, India. Prakash Padukone was a badminton legend, who retired in the 80s. Her mother, a travel agency also comes from this village.
